PENDING LITIGATION AND CURRENT EVENTS

LITIGATION

On March 28, 2000 the Greater Flint ACLU joined the State ACLU in representing a Grand Blanc High School student who is challenging the schools policy of conducting suspicionless drug testing of school athletes. CURRENT EVENTS

Greater Flint ACLU Board Member Alec Gibbs was chosen by the national headquarters of the ACLU to be one of 12 students nationally to receive an ACLU Youth Activist Scholarship.(See ACLU Scholarship link)The scholarship is awarded because of outstanding contributions to civil liberties in general, and the rights of young people in particular. Alec Gibbs is a senior at Fenton H.S. and scheduled to attend the James Madison School of Public Policy at Michigan State University in the Fall of 2001.

FUTURE EVENTS

1. The University of Michigan-Flint Chapter of the ACLU meets twice a month at Room 369 of the University Center Building

2. Elections for openings on the Board of Directors of The Greater Flint ACLU will be held between April & May 2001. Candidates will be announced and ballots distributed in the near future. If you are interested in running for an opening contact us at the e mail address below.

3. The Greater Flint ACLU annual meeting will take place on June 8, 2001 at the annual dinner at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Flint, Michigan.
